missing .sys files with upgrade from home to pro

When I try to upgrade to pro from home edition I keep getting these lame
missing .sys file errors when it's towards the end of preparing the
installation. It's never the same file either. I can either retry, skip file,
or exit installation.

If I retry it just tells me to retry again. If I skip the file I'm prompted
to restart and continue the installation, but it won't install correctly
because it says the .sys file is missing. Everytime I attempt to upgrade
again I get a different missing .sys file. I don't really understand what's
going on. I figured if it were just a missing file it wouldn't keep changing.

this error is most often caused by a faulty ram stick (sometimes it is a
faulty install disk or hard drive but test the ram first).
get a 'live cd' (try UBCD4xp) and run memtest86 to determine which ram stick
(if you have more than 1) is faulty (test them 1 at a time). try the stick in
all the slots to confirm that it isnt the slot.
post back the results.

It definitely isn't the memory. I tested'em out and came back with no errors.
Doesn't surprise me either, since my ram's only a week old and they're pretty
high-end sticks that cost me a pretty penny. Someone from Microsoft contacted
me saying it's likely a faulty disc. Hopefully this means they'll replace it
