Missing Speaker Icon

I've searched everywhere and have not been successful. I lost my sound icon in the system tray. In the control panel under "Sound and Audio Devices Properties" Voice Playback Default Device always reverts to blank after selecting a sound card device. I thought the problem was maybe my sound card had gone bad so I installed a new one. No help! I've checked the speaker icon box with no help. I think it's registry related but have not been sucessful as of yet to fix it. However I can play various items that play sound like mp3, system wav files and certain streaming audios do not play. Problem started after I installed macromedia player for streaming audio.


Hope some super sharp PC geek can help cause this one is stumped!!
