missing "SndVol32.exe" file, no volume control or icon in task bar

Have tried various remedies, and the only one that relates
exactly to my situation requires a WinXP install disk. Any
way around this, because my laptop didn't come with an XP
disk. Thanks!
 
relates to sound configuration manager . you will def need a windows xp cd.
