sndvol32.exe runs, but it's window does not appear. I know its running
because it's button appears in the taskbar. When I right click it's taskbar
button and select 'move', my mouse icon changes to a four-sided arrow and
jumps to the left side of the screen. It is just like the window for
sndvol31 is appearing off-screen left. I briefly used a dual-monitor video
card but returned it after a couple days and now I'm using a single monitor
again. When I ran dual monitors, I moved the sndvol32 window way off to the
left, and now that I have a single monitor again, is it possible that the
sndvol32 window is simply off-screen? I tried auto re-arranging the desktop
icons, and all my other icons appear, but I cannot get the sndvol32
application window to appear. This is the app that lets you control the
soundcard in/out and has all the volume sliders. I need it to switch back
and forth from Skype to recording with Audacity, play music through speakers,
etc. Help!!!

Never mind --- I figured it out. For some reason XP was simply not showing
the window, by right clicking the taskbar and selecting "Show ..." it
magically re-appeared.
Thanks a zillion guys --- you have all been wonderfully helpfull.
;)
