Missing PRO.MSI file

I'm using Windows XP- Pro with SP2. I've lost the ability to use Excel,
Word, Powperpoint and Access. System is looking to load a file named
"PRO.MSI". I'm unable to find the file on my PC or the original software
disc. When I try to reinstall from disk it fails and tells me a newer
version is installed. Original was w/SP1 and I susequently downloaded SP2.
Is there a fix available? Can I back out SP2 and than reload from disk.?
What will be lost?

You receive an "Error 1706. Setup cannot find the required files," error message :
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/298021/en-us

Visit http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm and scroll down
to Item No. 171 (right column) and click on "Office XP 1706 - ProPlus.MSI Fix".

Carey, Thanks for suggestion. Tried fix from kellys korner and am still
experiencing same problem. Is PRO.MSI a file or a registry entry?

Your being asked to provide a file located on a Microsoft Office installation
CD, not your Windows XP CD.

How exactly did you lose the ability to run Excel, Word, Powperpoint, and
Access? Did you reinstall Windows? If that's the case then you'll have to
reinstall Office from the correct installation CD.

Good luck

You can always do a repair re-install of your XP if you ahve an
original XP install CD (no recovery cds.) You will need to be able to
"slipstream" the latest "released" service pack (currently SP2) into
the XP install CD and create revised install CD.

NOTE: Service Pack 3 (SP3) is to be "released" any day. Until is is
released, and Beta or RC named versions of this service pack, it must
be treated as "test" software with no direct support, no complete
uninstall porecess or have all the modules working correctly.

PRO.MSI is a file from the MS Office Professional CD. It isn't part of
Windows XP.

The message you are getting is generated by Office, not XP.
