Detect and repair file pro.msi is missing from orginial CD?

I have a presentation that crashed on me. I am trying to use detect and
repair to see if I can fix it...but when I try and install that component it
tells me that it cannot find the file pro.msi. I have not been able to find
it anywhere on the disk! Any ideas?

Is your CD for Office 2003 Professional Edition? If so the file should be
called pro11.msi and in the root directory with a ton of .CAB files.

No..it is Office XP.

The .msi file name varies. I have Office XP Professional Edition and the file
is called proret.msi (ret = retail I guess) and it's in the root directory of
the CD along with a file called office1.cab. Do you have the same? Are you
sure that you are looking at the CD that you used for installing Office?

I found the proret.msi file. However, when I run the detect and repair
portion of Powerpoint office, it states that it is specifically looking for
pro.msi. Tried to direct it to proret.msi and it kicks back message saying
the equivalent of "nope that aint it...need the pro.msi file".

When my file corrupted, I orginally went to the detect and repair and it
requested the orginal disk to install. Put it in and dealt with above
issue....
I have hence given up on the repair portion and am reconstructing my
presentation....but would still be curious to know if anyone else has run
into this. I did a complete 'run from computer' install when I initially
loaded Office, but it still requested the original disk to set up
installation for this function.... and then of course came the file
request..... Ideas?

I don't think you ever mentioned what function you were trying to repair. Care
to share?

When in doubt I just uninstall and reinstall. Whenever I've had a problem with
the installer finding the right msi file it's been because I didn't have the
right CD in the drive. But I have four versions of Office products installed
and CDs for various editions of some of them, so I have to be careful.

do not have cd - gave it to my daughter for university
Find other solution - wesite or !!!

Possession = ownership. If you gave the CD to your daughter, that means that
you also relinquished the license. What problem are you trying to correct?
Maybe there's a way to fix it without having the CD.

I have a similar situation. I purchased a laptop from someone and apparently
this pro.msi file was corrupted. Is there anyway to get these files without
purchasing the entire software pack again.
Please help.
