Missing images, red x's etc.

I am publishing a new series of b&w jpegs to my website using FrontPage 2002.
I have been monitoring my progress on my iMac using Safari and on my PC using
Firefox and everything has looked good. Then, after being told of problems by
a friend, I checked the same web pages out in IE (on the same PC), and
discovered that all these newer images -- and only the newer images -- are
displaying as blank outline with little red x's in boxes in the corners.
Other images which were published earlier on the same web pages still look
okay in IE. No problem in Firefox, no problem in Safari. Major problem in
Internet Explorer v.6 with just the newer images. Help! Any suggestions?

Don,

Thanks for the pointers. I'll work through them in the next couple of days.
It doesn't look like an easy fix, such as clearing the cache. What I also
have to consider is why my friend's PC running Win 98 also won't show the
images. Is it possible that his IE is corrupted the same way as mine might
be? Or is the problem with IE itself? I dunno, maybe it's got something to do
with the file names.

Dave.

Hi,
First clear the cache (Temporary Internet Files) and restart the computer.

Then... many more possibilities at http://www.fjsmjs.com/IE/redx.htm

Hope this helps,

Hi,
You're right. I didn't take into consideration that it happens to another
user on a different machine.

I would re-examine the hyperlinks, path, filenames, etc. As you know (as I'm
reminded occasionally) those details have to be *completely* correct for the
page to work. ;-)

I believe I have found the problem. IE6 for the PC was balking at the use of
the © character in my filenames. Curiously, it is the only one of the four
browsers I use that wouldn't accept it.
