Well, it's more like they maim it rather than actually killing it.
I've got thumbnail images on my web site that were generated with
ImageMagick. For a large number of people, viewing one of those images is
enough to destroy the ability of the current instance of IE to fetch any
additional images from web sites - after hitting one of them, any time IE
tries to fetch another image (from any site, not just mine), it will send
incorrect headers to the web server so that it receives a 304 response, and
then will not display anything.
Quitting and restarting IE solves the problem, at least until they hit my
web page again.
The images work perfectly with Firefox and Mozilla under Windows; Safari,
IE, and Mozilla/Firefox for Mac; and Konqueror and Mozilla/Firefox for
Linux. They also work with some people's IE6 installations, for reasons I
haven't been able to isolate. They open without a problem in every
image-editing application I've tried.
Has anyone seen something like this before? Is it a known IE bug? Is there a
workaround?
The web site address is in my .sig, in case you want to try it. On the main
page (linked below), there are a bunch of small navigation images, generated
with Photoshop, and they don't cause any problem. Then there are 6
postage-stamp-sized photo thumbnails; they are the culprits.
I'd be grateful for any info. Thanks.
