red x with ie and firefox

My setup is xp sp2 and ie6 sp2, I have been experiencing red x placeholder
while trying to view an offline HTML document from a disk.

I have viewed the program from other pc's using the same disk as to rule out
a faulty disk.

I have cleared cookies and cleared and resized the cache and reviewed the
settings in ie6.

I have also utilized the many tools found on www.fjsmjs as well as
support.microsoft.com and www.askbobrankin.com. I've followed links on all of
those sites to no avail.

As a last resort I installed firefox to see if I could then view the images
on the disk, no deal. The program runs it just subs placeholder for images.

I attempted to reinstall ie6 sp2 and received the "setup has detected a
newer version of internet explorer...." I have done everything except that I
know to do and tried most everything I read or found online, nothing works.

While I am online I can properly view images from sites, the only issue is
when viewing the contents of the disk. I can view the contents onother Pc's
though.

help!!!

Although a web page looks like a single item, it is often made of many
components that are cobbled together to form a complete page. These
components may come from different servers, or different URLs on the
same server.

When you view a web page online (without using filtering software), all
the different parts are assembled in place. When you save a web page
this may not happen, because one or more of the links to the different
components are broken.

Also, some components of web pages are not designed to be viewed off
line. This is a decision of the content owner, and is coded into the web
page. There is usually nothing you can do about it.

To get more specific help, we would need to know what web page you want
to save (specify the exact URL) and exactly how you go about saving a
web page to your hard disk. We presume you are using IE 6 (since you're
posting in an IE 6 newsgroup) but we don't know what version of Windows
you are using. If you are using any content filtering software, we need
to know about that too.

Tools | Internet Options | Advanced
Scroll down to Security.
Check the box "Allow active content from CD's to run on My Computer".
