missing emails

Hope someone can help me with this, for the last 4 days , when i log onto
windows, i have a message under my screen name , 4 unread emails, these
emails are from a hotmail address, but when i sign onto the internet, i am
with aol, and open up my email box, there are no emails, they were sent
through msn, which i have but dont use very often , but i use aol as my email
preference, my duaghter had this a long while ago , but it was because her
settings were only to show emails from people she knew, i had to put it onto
"everyone" so she could get the emails that time, but mine has always been
set at "show emails from everyone", i dont understand why i cant find them,
and the message doesnt seem to want to go away from my log in screen. any
ideas please. Thank you

Install TweakUI:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

TweakUI > Repair > Repair unread mail count > Repair now.
> Logon > Unread Mail > Show unread mail on Welcome screen >
untick.
thanks , i did as you asked, but when i try to run it , it comes up with a
box with a red x in the corner , saying it is not a valid windows 32 file,
maybe i have saved it to the wrong place , i put it into my documents ,
generally anything i download, i run from there, would this be why it wont
run.

NIS 2005 is Norton Internet Security (antivirus, firewall, etc.).
This program can interfere with the function of programs and should be
disabled if they are to run properly.

Either the download wasn't complete (disable any proxy server and try
again) or there is a virus on your system if this happens more than
once.
maybe i have saved it to the wrong place , i put it into my documents

Any temporary directory (ie. C:\Windows\Temp) is a good place for that
file.
