Missing DVD - CD burners

I was having an issue with Nero Vision Express 6 and so I ran their cleaning
tools to remove. I also ran their registry cleaner. After I completed this
I restarted my computer and now my D and E drives are missing all together.
I checked in device manager and they are not there at all. I seen where
others had this problem and it was suggeted that you open registry editor and
go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
and delete the upper and lower filter values. However, There are no such
thing showing when I go there. I would like to do a repair install but I
can't as I can't get my computer to boot from my XP CD as the cd drive is not
showing?

PS - I just found a registry patch on this site called "cdgone" that sounded
like it might fix my problem. I tried it but still no cd drives.

Have you tried using system restore, to restore to an earlier date..?
Didn't you export a backup copy of the registry key before you tinkered with
it manualy..?
