microsoft word has encountered a problem. . .

When attempting to open any new files in Word, from a disk
or from an email attachment, I get a message "Microsoft
Word has encountered a problem and needs to close" then
it wants to send an error report. Have uninstalled Office
XP for Students and Teachers, and reinstalled. Any ideas?
