microphone

I have an external microphone that fails to pick up anything. My Dell
doesn't register that I am using a microphone and the guide on windows says
to click the "speech recognition" tab under speech in the control panel, but
I don't have this tab. Are my computer and mic incomatible? Is there any
sort of mic I can get for my computer?

Hello there,

Are you certain that you have the microphone plugged into the correct socket ?

Have you confirmed that in the recording properties that you have MIC selected
as the source?? Double click the small speaker in your task bar and select
Recording tab

Is the microphone battery powered and with the correct batteries?

Does the microphone itself have an on off switch?

Can you use this microphone on any other equipment and prove that its OK ?

If none of the above solve it for you, I have a very good line in lump hammers
that you......
