Microphone

I recently purchased a GE microphone for use on MSN
Messanger which apparently is malfunctioning. I have
already looked in the control panel and the microphone
volume is up all the way, and sound registers on it, but it
won't work in MSN Messanger. Can anyone let me know how to
get this thing working? I'm heading to Japan in a week and
i hope to keep costs down on international phone charges.
