Microphone stops working with XP and Via AC'97 chip

I upgraded from Win98 to XP Pro and my microhone input
has stopped working. I've loaded the latest drivers from
the manf website to no avail. Any suggestions?

Its an ECS K7VZA motherboard with an integrated VIA AC'97
Audio chipset.

Check your volume control to see that the mic input is not muted and that
the volume slider is up.
