Microphone not working

Joe Janecka

I don't know under what circumstances it happened, but my "Microphone
Input" quit working. It is an on-board sound on the motherboard.
(See system description below). I checked it with several microphones
with same results. The microphones do work fine with other computers.
I thought maybe the mike jack or other input component went bad, so I
went and installed a sound card. Well, the "Microphone Input" doesn't
work on the sound card either!

XP Help and Support doesn't even address mike input problems nor have
I found anything in the Microsoft Knowledge base.

Anyone have any ideas what is wrong here? I sure need to use the sound
recorder. If I were guessing, I would think it is a system software
problem. I have Windows XP Pro with SP1.

Have you checked to see that it's not Muted? Go to
Start/Programs/Accessories/Entertainment/Volume Control.
