Microphone not working in XP

I have two networked dual boot computers running XP Home
with Ensoniq sound cards. Line in, line out work fine
but microphone input does not. Same microphone and sound
card work fine when booted to Win 98 so the problem must
be Win XP. Voice test brings up a msg that Windows
cannot execute DPVsetup.exe and an error code
0x80004005. Knowledge base article 282882 says to move
hardware accelerator to right but this did not help at
all. Microphone is enabled and boosted in Vol Control.
Can you provide any pointers - did I miss something in
initial set up of XP? There are 6 or 7 copies of
dpvsetup.exe on the hard drive, including in system 32.

I have the exact same problem and it is driving me
crazy. I have tried everything I can think of and I
actually took off work today to try and get this figured
out as I am trying to make a CD for my parent's
anniversary with picture and narration. I hope someone
out there can help. As stated below the acceleration
didn't help at all.
Thank you!

I've e-mailed Ensoniq for help - the XP guys are all busy
with the Blaster worm. I think one solution is to get a
USB microphone, but I'll wait to see if a solution comes
up before blowing $40/-
