Sound card stop working

My Asus motherboard Sound card stop working, Realtek AC'97. Device Manger
Audio Property device driver shows that it works fine but under the DirectX
Diagnostic sound device the driver is not listed. If I boot to linux the
sound card works fine. The sound card has worked fine under both OS's for
quite some time with Windows XP SP2. I Uninstaled and reinstalled with
updated drivers and still nothing.
 
It is built into the MB, If I do not find a fix I will buy a sound card

Try installing the latest version of DirectX.

I upgraded to DirectX 10, sound card still does not work in Windows XP
