No sound with AC'97 Audio

Hello,
I have intalled Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit on my Gateway laptop but I
can't get any sound.
My CPU is AMD Turion 64 and Motherboard chipset is ATI Radeon Xpress 200M.
The integrated sound controller is ATI SB400 AC'97.
I have installed the latest Realtek AC'97 audio codec Vista driver from here
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads...&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false#AC
but I get a "This device cannot start (Code 10) in the Device Manager Sound
properties.
Has anyone had a similar problem and got it to work?
Thanks a lot.

Thanks I tried the HD drivers but it made no difference. I dont think my
sound chip is HD. I'm pretty sure the AC'97 audio codec Vista driver is the
right driver.

Although you don't provide a model number, you may not have
RealTek sound. Other laptops using that ATI SB400 indicate
it's a Conexant AC97. You really need to find out exactly
your hardware is to search for the correct drivers.

Realtek AC'97 has always installed and worked fine on all of my builds of
Vista.

I agree with you, but I'm not sure the OPs laptop has a
Realtek chip. Google search for ATI SB400 AC'97 seem to
indicate the chip is a Conextant(?) sound chip.

If that is the case then i suggest he visits his laptop manufacturer's
website to see if an improved driver is available.
