Messenger window keeps popping up!

Since I turned on my computer this morning I keep getting a pop-up telling me
that a newer version of Windows Messenger is available and I must download it
to continue. No matter how many times I select NO (ie I don't want to
continue) it just keeps coming back.
Incidentally, I never use Messenger - only my daughter does, who logs on
separately. And yet sometimes it keeps opening up when I'm logged on, asking
me to sign in (as someone completely different - very bizzare). I don't know,
but have a sneaking suspicion that it has something to do with my wireless
connection dropping in and out.
Can anyone help??

in outlook, outlook express and msn messenger settings there are options to
start msn messenger at windows startup.. that pesky program is insidious..
find all these otions and be sure they are disabled

Check for Messenger running as an icon in the lower right hand side of
Windows, you may have to click the double arrows to see it. Right click
mouse and choose "exit" and click. It may not close if IE is started and
opened to some MSN pages. Just close and try again. I almost always close
MSN and AOL programs when I sit down at the computer. If the kids want them,
let them start them.

Please excuse me for replyingto you r post but I can't get the window to post
a new question. My problem is that since I installed SP2 with XP6 I can't
get pop-up windows. The pop-up blocker is turned off but Icontinue to get
the message that the pop-up was blocked often followed by "error on page".
This does do not always happen but I believe it is why I could not post a new
question (although I did not see the 'blocked' message). Any ideas?
Thanks
