messages with auto preview

I just converted to outlook 2003 and when i click on a new email in my inbox
only once (envelope doesn't open yet) it is previewing it on the right for
me. Does this mean it is opening as if I had clicked on it twice? I don't
want to accidentally open spam by only highlighting the new email. I want to
have to double click on it for it to open. Any help would be greatly
appreciated! Thank you.

The envelope is just for your own indication. When you view the contents of
an email you have opened it whether you double click on it or not. In fact,
the Reading Pane is actually more secure than opening a message by double
clicking on it.

There is no danger in previewing spam.
