single vs. double clicks

I use a preview pane and when I want to open an email I double click.

But today, they are randomly opening on single clicks. Did I accidentally
hit a button that changed my settings?

How do I get it back to double clicks?

Is your double click behavior only irregular in Outlook?
Tried changing mouse already?

It is intermittent...every three clicks or so.

No, I have not changed the mouse...but the batteries are less than one month
old...

But it is not limited to Outlook?
Test it with a wired mouse to make sure it is not caused by interference
with the wireless signal.
