How to flick through Inbox without marking the email open?

When you click on an email to view it in the preview pane it will then appear
at open. How can I avoid it and actually mark open an email only when I
double click on it?

I think that option in OL2007 is here: Tools menu > Options > Other tab >
Click Reading Pane
