Microsoft Office Outlook message and item previewer

I am having problems opening the attachments on emails that have been
forwarded to me by other senders. I can forward the same emails to my
husband's computer and he is able to open them. When I open the email and
double click on the attachment, nothing happens. If I right click on the
attachment and select preview, I receive the following message:

This file cannot be previewed because of an error with the following
previewer:
Microsoft Office Outlook message and item previewer.
To open this file in its own program, double click it.

Any suggestions?

What version of Microsoft Outlook has the problem? What version doesn't? Is
this all attachments or just one type? If it's one specific type of
attachment, what type is it?

Hi - I have a similar experience when using the previewer. I am using Office
2007 Std Outlook on Vista Home Premium machine. The error msg Cynthia
describes is received when attempting to preview an outlook message or item
in the preview window. Preview works for PDFs, Excel (2003/07), Word (2000,
2003, 2007), PPT (2003, 2007), JPGs.

Verified in Tools>Trust Center>Attachment handling>Attachment & Document
Previewers, that this previewer and all other choices are enabled.

Seems to be an issue with this particular viewer.

There are some other posts on this issue suggesting Google Desktop is the
issue and offering a couple solutions. Search this forum on "item previewer"
and you'll find. pmd

I do have GD and unchecked it in Outlook Add-ins and restarted Outlook but it still cannot preview msg files. In fact, I don't think it ever did - and this was initially installed with Office 2007. Other machines can open so I know it is a local thing. I even exited but to no avail.

Any other ideas about conflicts?

Just read that you can turn off indexing from Add/Remove in the control panel.

THIS WORKS!! And Outlook does load faster!!!

I'm not sure how it affects GD though!

I'm solved, for now.
