Memory (Ram)

Gerard Mainville

I install an additional memory card and my computer
freezes at times. So I had to remove it. Is there anyone
that can tell me this happens.

If it works without the "defective" RAM stick, you can
make sure this RAM has no issues with the motherboard and
hardware you are using. Otherwise it could be
bad/defective.

Greetings --

It's absolutely essential that any new RAM module be compatible
with both the motherboard and any other RAM module(s) in the system.
Additionally, there are sometimes jumper switches on older
motherboards that need to be reset for the new RAM configuration.
Consult your motherboard's manual.

It can happen if the modules are not exactly matched - there are
critical timing loops that go wrong if they get into the wrong piece of
RAM. For example, for my motherboard Crucial lists two variants, with
CL=2 or CL=3 - you need to be sure a new one matches the one(s) you
already have
