When I try to open a particular program I an error
message that says "failed to allocate memory". How do I
correct it? Also when I shut down the computer I get a
message that says something like "virtual memory very
low". How do I correct this? Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Right click on My Comptuter on the desktop (or through the start menu) then
choose Properties. Click the Advanced tab, click the Settings button under
Performance section, then when the new window appears click the Advanced
tab. Then down at the bottom of that window (under the virtual memory
section) click the Change button.

The best thing is to let windows handle VM automatically, but if you REALLY
need to specify the settings, the Initial Size should be 75% of the amount
of RAM you have. I.E. 512MB's should be set to 384MB's

The Maximum size should be 150% of the amount of RAM you have. I.E. 512MB's
should be set to 768MB's.

Hope this helps

Check out the Problems section at www.aumha.org/win5/a/xpvm.htm - this
sounds to me like the one associated with Norton Live Update
