Media Player loads at start up - help!!!

I have Vista Home Premium and Dell XPS 410. Media Player does not work
because it loads at start up and it should not do that. When it does open
(closing it thru task mgr) - I cannot create playlists and no error msg is
given. Do you know how to fix? (cannot uninstall Media Player since it is
part of Vista)
