MCE "Rollup" Toasted My Media Center

J

Jeff Daly

Has anyone else had a problem with the Media Center "Rollup" from Windows
Update? Now whenever I try to view any recorded material or try to schedule
a new recording, I get multiple error messages about corrupt or missing
files.

Of course, I had turned off System Restore so I can't "undo" the
installation of the so-called update.

Any advise, suggestions, sympathy?

Is there an "official" MediaCenter newsgroup on MS servers? I looked and
couldn't find any.

Try running the MCERepair tool found here.

MceRepair 0.1 (alpha)
http://blogs.msdn.com/peterrosser/archive/2005/10/20/482974.aspx

MceRepair.exe will:

a.. Repair the ACLs to get COM+ Services working again (see KB909444)
b.. Repair the registration for .NET Framework v1.1 libraries (should fix
the "Entry Point Not Found in mscoree.dll" error during registration).
c.. Reinstalls all MCE Windows Services
d.. Re-registers COM components of MCE
e.. Reinstalls managed assemblies into the GAC
f.. Recreates native images for managed assemblies (ngen)

Jason,

Thanks. I tried to go there last night and the download was
unavailable...today, it's available though. I've now uninstalled the
"Rollup" and will follow the .Net instructions 1st this time! :)
