MCE Identity Issues

I upgraded my machine from XP Home Edition 2002 to XP MCE 2005 (OEM), and am now attempting to install Rollup 2 so I can install Zune software for my new toy. Unfortunately, any time I try to update to RU1 (since RU2 doesn't recognize my OS as compatible), it fails prereqs.

I've attempted to run Jason Salloway's Ident Set (following the advice here: http://www.eggheadcafe.com/software/aspnet/30102360/problem-loading-rollup-1.aspx), but when I try to run that software, I get this message: "Error during initialisation. This software is for Windows XP Media Center Edition only. Exception Message: Object reference not set to an instance of an object."

My thoughts: since I upgraded from XP Home Edition to MCE, the registry is still logging my OS as Home Edition, preventing installation of rollups and updates for MCE. Unfortunately, I have neither the knowledge nor the skills required to fix this.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Unfortunately you didn't actually "upgrade", but it does sound like you
did a mangled overwrite. OEM operating systems are for "clean" install.
So flush the install partition, and install MCE clean.

MCE (Media Center Edition) is not provided as a Windows Upgrade kit.
To install MCE correctly, you must remove the old Home and install the
MCE
