New version of Media Player isn't what Windows was expecting

Hi,
I have windows XP Media Center 2005 on my PC
Yesterday I downloaded an update (KB910393) which was supposed to fix a
problem with Media Player 10 overwriting Digital Rights Management files
installed by Rollup 2 for Media Center.
The installation was reported as successful, however now if I try to run
Media Player I get the following message: 'The file wmploc.dll has version
number of 10.0.0.3803 where 10.0.0.2646 was expected'
It then tells me to download Media Player 10 again, however if I try to do
this I get told a more recent version is already installed and to quit
installation.
Any help would be much appreciated

Lee,

Try uninstalling the update from Add/Remove Programs. Then update your Media
Player 10 before downloading the update again.

Why does he have to go through that charade? Why isn't it possible to put
some "integrity" in these Microsoft d/ls? To put some confidence in them?
The only thing I am confident about Microsoft d/ls is they are a strict
adherent ot Murphy's Law. If there is a chance they will break the system
count on it they will.
