I've been having the "Your SiteAdvisor has stopped working" for the last
couple days. How do I fix it?

This is not the McAfee support site, nor would the Microsoft anti-spyware
package Windows Defender have anything to do with SiteAdvisor not working,
but you might try cleaning up your cookies and temporary internet files
then re-trying it. Does it also fail if you go to Google and do any search
when the result sites are displayed with siteadvisor ratings?

For Robinb
Engel suggested I contact you because he said you had more experience with
some of my queries. Here is a copy of my post to Engel -
Because of alot of trouble I've had with
Norton Internet Security with Defender, I'm thinking of uninstalling Norton
and using mostly free applications. I still want to use Windows Defender
(real time application?).
Could you tell me please (or I would value anyone's legitimate and
trustworthy comments) how this list of Antivirus (A-V) and Antispyware (A-S)
list looks, using Windows Defender too.
A-V APPLICATIONS.
*'Real time' A-V
-AVG antivrus free edition (don't know if it includes a firewall, or best
to use microsoft's firewall) Is this 'real time'?
*'On Demand' A-V
-BitDefender10 free edition
A-S APPLICATIONS (using Windows Defender)
*'Real time'
-Windows Defender
*'On Demand' A-S
-Adaware se personal
-Spybot S & D
-Spyware Doctor (PC Tools) [already installed] 'On demand' ?
-SpyBlaster (if needed)
Thanks in advance for your thoughts and replies to my queries

Sorry I couldn't find you anywhere else so had to use this link.
Thanks Martin

I am sorry i have not answered you, i rarely look in here, I go mostly in
spyware.general but i popped in accidently and just saw your post.

I do not like Norton because it is a hog on memory.
When you uninstall it make sure you run cccleaner's reg tab to remove
obsolute software.

If you are using Norton Security you will need to run the tool to completly
remove the program.
You can pick it up here- make sure you read all the instructions

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

Once this is done, I recommend using AVG Antivirus, if you are on a router
you can use ms firewall. If you are not and are on XP then download AVG Pro
with firewall., i believe it works on vista too now. I just do not like
anything with a suite because if something gets corrupted everything in the
program does. I would rather pay a bit more and get seperate programs then
have headaches. I use the avg pro with firewall on 2 computers running xp
pro sp2 with no problems and have been for 6yrs so far.

As for antispyware protection these programs are which i recommend and they
work both on Vista and XP
AVG Antispyware- you can trial it for 30 days- it becomes free after 30 days
if you do not want to purchase it and you can remove it from starting up by
righting clicking it and removing the check from startup. It is an
excellant program with a residential shield.

Superantispware: download the free version- this program has saved many
computers that were racked with trojans and it is excellant. It gets into
the core of windows and can get out things that others cannot.

Spywareblaster: this program stops the bad guys at windows registry and it
doesn't run a scan, all you need to do is once a week look for an update.

Adaware 2007: I did not like it when it first came out. it ate up alot of
memory but now I have seen they have updated it and I am running it on 3
machines so far with no problems. You can take the adaware.exe and make it
start manually instead of automatic by going into administrator
tools/services, and put the service to manual.

Windows Defender: It is a pretty good backup program, it plays nice with
these programs, runs as a service and uses very little memory but i would
not use it as your sole protection, it doesn't grab enough. I do like its
feature where it tells you what is going on when you install something new
and lots can help you in here or in
microsoft.private.security.spyware.general (where i hang out)

the new spybot search and destroy 1.5 I am not thrilled with. It is very
annoying when it goes to every page and asked you if you want to keeep the
cookies or not. If you set it silently you will not know what you really
need to open and rack your brains wondering why your banking site is not
opening until you realize it is SB. I also see it is running slower than it
did in 1.4 and uses more memory.

that is about all you need. I do not like spydoctor. I have removed it
off 20 computers because it loads so slow on startup, sometimes freezes, and
to tell you the truth on one computer i was fixing had it on it and the
computer was running real slow. It was the only spyware protection on the
computer. I found AVG antispyware found 200 trojans, and Superantispyware
found an additonal 50. Spyware Doctor that was running in real time found
nothing.

Rule of thumb- you need only one Antivirus Program (2 will conflict and not
play nice) but you can have a bunch of antispyware programs providing they
do not conflict with each other. These do not.

Good luck and if you need me again i am in the other newsgroup most of the
time.

Does the message come from McAfee, or from Windows, or Windows Defender?
