Maxtor hard drive not recognized

Hello,

I have a new IBM Thinkpad t42 with Windows XP and I can't get it to
recognize my Maxtor external drive, which connects via firewire and a 1394
card. I have an old Thinkpad with Windows 2000 which recognizes the Maxtor.
Is there a problem with windows XP?

hi john,

a while ago, i could not get my maxtor external drive to work with my
laptop. i called maxtor's tech support. after about the 3rd call, they
decided to replace it for free. the new one works fine. they couldn't figure
out why it wouldn't work in XP. hope this helps.
