making a digital photo my desktop image

I have Windows XP and have always been able to right click on any
photo which I have taken and stored on the hard drive, then selected
'set as desktop background' and have it stay as my desktop until I
choose another one. Over the last couple of weeks, whenever I do
that, within about 24-48 hours, it reverts back to the photo I had
before that time. For instance, I recently returned from Tuscany and
chose one of our photos as our desktop. But it keeps reverting back to
the stock internet photo we had chosen at one time. Can anyone help
me figure out why it is doing this? And no, I'm pretty sure no one in
the house is playing a trick on me because this morning I changed it,
and I was the first one home this evening, and it had changed back.
So unless my boxers have learned how to work with Windows.... Thanks
for any help anyone can give me!

Make sure the active desktop is not checked or "view as web page"
