Using PAINT program to create my desktop display from a photo in M

For years, I have used one of my many photos stored in My Documents, My
Pictures to show as the display on my Desktop when the computer is not in use.

The procedure has been the exact same each time, and I have been doing this
at least three times per month for a period of at least 5 years explained as
follows:

1). I RUMMAGE THROUGH ONE OF MY MANY PHOTOS STORED UNDER MY DOCUMENTS -- MY
PICTURES

2). I, once having selected the proper photo, then click on it to display
the photo in its entrirety on my desktop.

3). I, then, use "SHIFT" -- "PRINT SCREEN" and close out My Documents and
open up my "PAINT" program!

4). I, then, hit "CTRL" "V" to copy the photo into my Paint program;
remember, I have followed this scheme for at least 5 years without issue.

5). Next, I save the photo as , say "NEW54", which is saved back in My
Documents, My Pictures -- please bear in mind that I have never varied from
this scheme.

6). Finally, after all the above has been accomplished, I go back to a
blank area on My Desktop, "right" click anywhere on the desktop to bing up
Display Propeties, hit browse, find my newly created file ("NEW54"),
and...voila...I have a newly created background photo for my desktop.

ALL OF THE ABOVE WORKED WELL UNTIL YESTERDAY. NOW, WHEN I FIND MY NEWLY
CREATED FILE FROM "PAINT" TO "MY DOCUMENTS", THE NEWLY CREATED FILE IN My
Documents takes up only a mere tiny portion of the photo thumbnail view. In
fact, the photo displayed takes up only approximately 15% of the thumbnail.

Yes, I can click on it in order to still use it as my desktop photo, but I
must choose "TILE" to disply its full size on my desktop!

LASTLY, I HAVE BEEN REPEATING THIS PROCESS FOR 5 YEARS OR SO, AND i HAVE
NEVER RUN ACCROSS THIS DILEMMA; I SEEM TO THINK THE PROBLEM IS WITH MY
PAINTBRUSH PROGRAM; BUT HOW OR WHY IT HAS SUDDENLY OCCURRED IS NEWS TO ME!!

Any suggestions as to how to fix this dilemma; I am quite perplexed and
amazed; I have done every step the exact same way for several years -- the
only way, I can view my desktop using my neww photograph, is to utilize the
"TILE" option.

Please HELP! and THANK YOU!

Very truly yours,

That sounds a very convoluted way to get a photo to be your desktop
wallpaper. If you right click on one of your photos do you not get the
option to "Set as desktop background" ?

Or simply go into desktop settings and browse for the picture and pick
one. But I set mine to "stretch" rather than "tile" to fill the
screen. Both settings are valid, its just how they fill the screen
that differs.

I have no idea why you are involving Paint in this process.

All you have to do is right click any open picture and
choose 'Set As Desktop Background' from the menu.

As for Paint...maybe the following links would be useful:

Yes, Bill, you are correct...nevertheless, I have been using the PAINT
program to accomplish as I described; why, now, am I getting...(out of
Paint), a BMP file that is "small", i.e. does not fill the screen (unless I
use the "tile" button?

db

bmp's is old technology

jpg's are of higher quality.

jpg's also have a setting
to modify at the time
of saving.

so select optimize and
maximum.

in regards to the issue
you are having, there
is a correlation to file
size and dpi.

it seems that the file/pic
you are having trouble
with simply has too little
dpi.

therefore, try using a more
advance graphics program
that provides the options
described above.

1. How big (bytes) is the original?

2. How big (bytes) is the new one from Paint?
