Paint causeing a program error

I like to use MS Paint to do simple edits to BMPs and JPGs. It's easy and I
can very easily resize and re-save files in multiple formats. However I
recently noticed that my shortcut to MS Paint was missing and in fact it
didn't show up in the list of programs to open photos with. So I did a search
and when I found the .exe file I double clicked it and a window came up
stating that the program has caused an error and will be shut down. I was
given the option to send the information to Microsoft. I did.

This seems to have happened since I installed the Windows Live package. I
also have IE 7 (which I can not enter addresses into the address bar) and
WinXP SP3.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Open Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, Add/Remove Windows Components.
Double-click "Accessories and Utilities", Accessories, deselect Paint.
Exit the applet. Reenter the applet, add Paint, and exit again. This
should reload the program and any other files it needs.
