When I sign on to XP home edition I have 4 user accounts. 1 account says that
I have 3 unread mail messages but when I go to my email I don't have any
unread emails. Why and how do I get rid of the message. I'm totaling new to
xp so your advice is greatly appreciated!

I tried your first link but the info there didn't describe my exact problem
so I was afraid to alter the registry as it stated that it could cause a
problem. The second link which was the powertools option I downloaded and
installed, reboot but it still says that I have 3 unread messages. Any other
suggestions?

Hi Shannon,

This should help you control it:

Overview of Mail Notification Display on WinXP Welcome Screen [Q304148]

You can also use TweakUI to control this behavior:

Hi Shannon,

Yes, working in the registry can have its downsides. In TweakUI, did you
check under logon/unread mail to disable the option to show the unread mail?
If you have not installed SP1 yet, you need to as this problem was addressed
in it.
