Welcome Screen says I have "5 unread mail messages"

On my Welcome Screen under one of the user prompts (KRK which is 1 of
2 user accounts on this PC) there is the message "5 unread mail
messages". When I highlight it it says "KRK has 5 unread messages"
and beneath that it says "(e-mail address removed)".
2 problems here: 1) I don't want or need to be notified of unread
messages. 2) We do not have an email account under the name
"(e-mail address removed)".
I've gone into every email account I have and have cleared and read
and reread and rebooted...I even wrote a test message from GMail to
that mystery account to see if the number of "unread messages" would
increase. It didn't.

Anybody know how I can clear this?

A possible cause is this:
I converted my GMail account to POP so I could use Microsoft Outlook.
While setting up the account under Outlook, on the first page of E-
Mail Accounts, I accidently entered that hotmail address in User
Information field for Email address. I finished the setup and was
able to get Outlook to handle my GMail. Shortly thereafter, I was
setting up a 2nd computer to work the same & I made a printscreen of
the field entries on the original PC and caught the mistake. I went
back in and made the correction but the notifier won't go away nor do
I get a new notifier of unread messages in GMail (not that I want it
anyhow).

I use XP Pro (sp2) and Office 2003.

I'm stumped: I've tried GMail, Office, and XP support but can't find a
match.

I apologise for being so long winded but I'd rather you have too much
info than not enough, which with my luck would be the key to solution.

Thanks & good luck,
Kevin

One way is download, install and run tweakui, one of the MS powertoys:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

In there is a setting to either reset or remove the email count display.
