You're right, Gary. After I posted the e-ml, I searched more thoroughly and
discovered some info on the Microsoft website that said my antivirus should
be shut down for scanning e-mls. I tried it and everything seems to be OK
now. I'm running Zone Alarm Extreme Security...............PJP
Windows Mail is very sensitive to interference from antivirus
programs. Which antivirus are you running?
Email scanning in any antivirus must be disabled, for
reasons explained here:

If turning off the email scanning function does not resolve your problem,
do a trial uninstall of your antivirus. If no improvement, you can
always reinstall it. Instead of uninstalling your antivirus, consider
upgrading to Windows Live Mail, because it is less prone to
suffering bad effects from overly aggressive antivirus programs.
