mail disappears from inbox when read

When we open any mail in our inbox, it disappears after we have read it. It
does not appear in deleted items; it's just gone.

We have outlook contined in microsoft office xp standard for students and
teachers version 2002 and have tried the repair option with the original
disk. No luck.

Looking for advice.

had been checking and checking, and finally found the anwer: Go to View and
click on Messages. Yes!
