Deleting from Inbox

Recently when I delete a message I do not get a line through it in the Inbox
it just disappears. However, when I send/receive it comes back. I cannot
purge the deleted items when they disappear. I get message from IMAP folder.
Is there setting I can change to delete the message for good?

Make sure you don't have your View settings set to "Hide Messages Marked for
Deletion".
