Low disk space

Hi all

If anyone can help solve this then I would be very grateful!

On Windows Mail (I am running 32-bit Vista) every few hours when I go to
open a new folder a message appears where the message thread is usually shown
which says that the message can't be shown because of low disk space and
system memory. It does not appear to be because of a stuck email, as there
are no emails in the Outbox and everything sends OK. Also, it happens when I
click on random folders, from being in an existing folder.

For example, I may be in my inbox and want to check sent messages, so I'll
click on the sent folder and then all messages will be hidden in all folders,
and I'll just see the message about low disk space etc.

If I exit Windows Mail then open it back up, the problem remains, though if
I restart the computer it goes back to normal, for a few hours...........

Any ideas?

Best wishes to all
Ian

What if any antivirus programs, antispyware programs, firewall programs,
and other security programs do you have? Some of them tend to cause
assorted problems in Windows Mail, although seldom immediately.

Do you have the Google Toolbar program installed? If so, uninstall it.
Do you have a program with SMS in its name? If so, tell its full name,
since I've heard of such a program that also causes problems in
Windows Mail.

Are you sure you have no stuck messages in any folder? The problem
that causes stuck messages often also causes error messages about
low disk space and system memory, even if neither are in short supply.
Therefore it is likely to be worthwhile trying the hotfix for stuck
messages,
even if you haven't found any. It's labelled as for stuck messages in the
Outbox, but also works in other folders.

Hi Robert

Thanks for the quick response.

I use Norton Protection Centre - I no longer scan incoming and outgoing
emails as this made things a lot slower and the problem has been present both
before and after I disabled the scanning of emails. The problem with Windows
Mail has occured right from when I bought the computer around 4 months ago.

When I click on Internet Explorer, there is a small Google tab at the right
of the address bar whichever website I am on. However, I can't seem to remove
this as it does not show in the Tools, Toolbars, section.

I have a program called SMS Desktop - should I remove this as I never use it?

I have tried using that fix
(http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090)
though when I run it the message 'not compatible with your system' comes up
and it closes.

Do you think it may be the SMS issue?

Best wishes and thanks for your comments thus far

Regards
Ian

Many versions of the Norton antivirus software must be uninstalled, not just
have a part or all of it disabled, to stop them from causing problems in
Windows
Mail. However, let that wait until later since leaving email scanning
disabled
works for some antivirus programs.

You are looking in the wrong place. Close Internet Explorer. Double click
on Computer on your desktop, then click on Uninstall or change a program,
then go down the list looking for Google Toolbar. If you find it , click on
it,
then Uninstall. Close the windows for this. You may then need to restart
Vista for the change to take effect.

Uninstall it the same way.

Did you try both the 32-bit version and the 64-bit version? One will refuse
to install, but usually not both unless you've installed it before or
already
installed Vista SP1, which seems to include it.

It's hard to tell unless you try uninstalling the SMS program.

You're welcome.

Yes, uninstall SMS Desktop. It is a known problem maker for
Windows Mail. While you are in Control Panel, Programs and Features,
look for Google Toolbar and uninstall that too.

Hi all

Thanks to everyone who has replied with help and information.

I am pleased to report that (touch wood) everything now seems to be working
fine.
I uninstalled SMS Desktop and now there does not seem to be a problem.

If anyone else has the same problem with Windows Mail then uninstalling SMS
Desktop should be the first thing tried to fix it!!!

Ian
