Message could not be displayed

After trying to delete all the emails in my deleted items folder by clicking
the edit then select all buttons, I got the message "Unknown error has
occurred" and I could not delete them. But after doing that, some of the
emails had the original message in the message body, replaced with "Message
could not be displayed Windows Mail encountered an unexpected problem while
displaying this message. Check your computer for low memory or low disk space
and try again."
There were also some other emails that the messages in the message body, did
not belong to that email the actual messages were all mixed up and not
corresponding to the email or sender who sent it, it was really weird.

Eventually I was able to delete all the emails in my deleted items folder by
clicking the edit button and then the empty deleted items button (instead of
select all then delete), but I still have two screwed up emails, one in the
sent items folder and another in a saved emails folder that are displaying
this " Message could not be displayed Windows Mail encountered an unexpected
problem while displaying this message. Check your computer for low memory or
low disk space and try again." in the message area of the email, and I cannot
delete or move these emails at all. The problem is definately not low memory
or disk space because it is a brand new computer with a large capacity. Has
anyone else had problems of this nature and been able to fix it and hopefully
get rid of the pesky unwanted and unmovable emails that have been
mysteriously altered.

A fix as been released by MS to resolve the problem of undeletable mails:

"Messages may be stuck in the Outbox when you use Windows Mail on a computer
that is running Windows Vista"

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

It works for all folders.

Thanks Steve but I don't have messages stuck in the outbox and I managed to
get rid of all the emails that were in my deleted items folder, that wasn't
the problem.

The problem is the two emails that have been altered somehow to show the
message "MESSAGE COULD NOT BE DISPLAYED" in the message box. This happened
when I first tried to delete all the emails in the deleted items folder and I
haven't been able to delete those two. One is in the sent items folder and
the other in a saved emails folder.

Read my message again please, especially the following part:

"It works for all folders."

The Microsoft fix referenced by Steve actually works for 'stuck'
messages in all folders, not just the Outbox.

Thankyou Steve and Mac will give it a try. Sorry I did not fully understand
your original reply, I put it down to my age (a not so comupter literate
senior). Anyway thankyou both again. much appreciated.

Age is no excuse. :)
Let's just say I am well into my sixties...

I'll say goodbye to them sometime in the next year.
