can anyone help? i've been using my computer as normal and suddenly my
computer doesn't recognise or find my sound card details or driver details.
i've recently installed SP2 so uninstalled it, but that didn't help. i've
also recently installed a program called Skype, but it kept working after
this, so i assume it's not that that caused the problem. Apparently, this is
a common problem, but i haven't found out how to rectify the problem. any
help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Have you tried reinstalling the sound card's drivers? And have you
tried a different sound card? Hardware does fail, now and then.
