Lost Password...

When you choose a password to log onto a machine with WIN XP, that password
is stored in a file SOME place, even though Bill Gates & Co. would like us
to think otherwise. Do you know where it is? My wife has been acting weird
lately, and she suddenly changed her password without telling me, which
means I can't get onto her machine to do any network fixes or anything.
Just in case she continues in her mood-swing too long for comfort, and I'd
rather not go to her about it and open up another can of worms, can you tell
me how to find out what it is? I have access to her machine and most of the
folders remotely over our network. But I still don't know where to look.

In continuing this, I do have a floppy called CIA Commander that will boot
up and give me access to her hard disk, and let me edit the Registry.
Just point me in the right direction.

Thanks.

XP's passwords are encrypted when they are stored, i.e.. they are not in
plain language.

(My disclaimer for help - Depending on the legal status between you and your
"wife" it may be illegal for you to enter her machine without her permission
so be forewarned.)

Maybe try logging in as Administrator, if the system was set up incorrectly
originally (no password on the administrator account), the administrator
password will be blank. Depending on the version of XP you have, Pro =
Ctrl, Alt, Del. twice at the security prompt, Home Start in Safe mode.

Funny, just a few days ago, someone posted that her boyfriend was
reading her emails, and accessing her account. Now you tell me you have
this CIA Commander thingy, and are using it to break in to her
computer. If you're the boyfriend in question, I really don't want to
help you.

Hi,

It is possible to reset xp password. When I lost my login pass I've
used password changer tool, that worked. The password was reset for me.
I have found that tool on a data set cd image, Boot Disk, and there
were also many backup, erase and recovery tools there. Some of them
were used by me, and they first class indeed.
