OT: Vista Home Premium corrupt logon password

Hi all

There are only so many minutes in a day !!!

After trawling the web for ages, and posting in the Vista.general NG, I'm
out of time !
....so am posting in here, ...where the real brains reside ! (......hoping
that flattery will get me everywhere).

A lady 'phoned me a while ago, her Vista Home Premium PC is refusing her
logon password, ...(suspect that her SAM file has become corrupted).
....(Just researched that System restore will not restore the SAM hive).

So, can anyone point me to a decent WORKING prog. that will crack a Vista
Home Premium SAM hive, and reveal the "changed - due to corruption" sole
user logon, that has changed due to file damage/corruption ?

MANY thanks, have already discovered OPH crack, d'loaded the iso file, burnt
CD, put a password on my XP Home ed. platform, booted up from OPH CD, and
get a lovely looking screen with a screen offering a few options, ...stabbed
around a bit and get mostly "tables not found" ...will have to obviously
do much more reading up on how to use OPH Crack.

FWIW I've tried Orphcrack and never got it to work...the link I gave you
should have a p/w reset that works.

Should have mentioned to run chkdsk /r first if you have the DVD

Thanks for all help,

I got to sit in front of afrementioned PC just after midday today,
....it booted into Safe Mode okay, and allowed me to chkdsk /r and remove the
sole user a/c pw etc.,
....after quizzing lady as to when it last booted up okay,
....performed a system checkpoint / restore dated 28/11/2013 | rebooted,
....and hey presto all is lovely !!!

....though a quick peek in Event Viewer | System
revealed
"The following boot start orsystem driver failed to load i8042prt"
....so am researching that now.
