Lost password to a compressed folder

I can't remember the password to a folder that I
compressed 10 days ago. I don't have any password
recovery.

I thought that by passwording the folder, my children
couldn't view it's contents. Yet, even this compressed
folder's contents can still be seen, and I can't
decompress the folder without a password first.
