password protect a windows folder

is there a way to password protect a windows folder.
a just want to password lock a folder without using a compressing program

i just want to add....i want to lock the folder then send it to a friend so
he can unlock it

Hi lee,

No, there is no way to password a folder without zipping it. You would need
to use a third-party program for this. Also, if you do, your friend will
also need to use that program to open it.
