I installed new ram the other day, and had to reset the BIOS in order to do
so. Now I have lost my CDRW and DVD drives, they get boot error : the Sec
Master is ATAPI Incompatible followed by the Sec Salve is ATAPI Incompatible.
I can boot into Windows and see them correctly installed in the Device
Manager, but they are only listed as CDROMS in My Computer and I can not
access any disks with them.
I have tried everything that I can think of, I can't update the firmware on
the CDRW, because the update doesn't seem to work, and I don't want to get
into the hassel of updating the DVD firmware.
Should I update the BIOS? I'm so lost!
Details of system
MotherBoard : ADM K7S5A Pro ECS Elitegroup
512 Ram
XP Pro SP2
IDE1 Master 10 Gig
IDE1 Slave 80 Gig
IDE2 Master Yamaha 2200 CDRW
IDE2 Slave Ultra HGI-40 DVD
Has boot error above, and also when a disk is put in the drive it says that
: The disk structure is corrupted and unaccessable.
I have also tried a third CDRW by LG and it did the same thing.
BIOS I have set to Auto detect upon boot for the drives, and have also tried
detecting in the BIOS and saving those settings.
I always get the same error : ATAPI Incompatible.
This happened sometime ago for me, and I could just hit F1 and everything
would be fine. And when I initially put on SP2 I had the same problems, but
fixed it by just setting one drive as a Master and the other as Slave.
I did also have Nero installed, so today I removed Nero, and deleted the
ATAPI file from sys32/drivers.
None of this has worked. Arggggg... Please help.
