Lost Administrator Password & Lost Task Manager - Help !!

Hello!

Got WindowsXP Pro in my homepC . I created 2 accounts
with Administrator privileges a year ago just in case one
became faulty/corrupted. I always use the Second
Administrator Account. The First Administrator Account
only shows up as an option when I boot in Safe Mode Only
(F8). I don't know why. So I only log-in using the Second
Administrator Account which for some unknown reason
(probably an electrical power loss in the community). I
begun to get an unstable system. I've tried
NortonUtilities, disk volume checks, and the system
remained unstable with freezes every 5 seconds. I also
noticed that my Task Manager got turned off by
Administrator. This has to do with the corruption because
I also lost some xxx.ini files from another program. I
have no option to turn it back on eventhough the Second
Administrator Account is the same as the First
Administrator Account. Eventually I got a message of
possible system file corruption. Unable to solve it with
NortonUtilities I decided to re-install WindowsXP Pro on
top under the Upgrade Mode with the following goals:

1. To patch or rewrite any missing or corrupted System
files

2. To obtain the Task Manager funtionality again.

Re-installing the SystemOS and re-applying all the latest
WindowsXP Pro patches thru the Microsoft Website gave me
back a stable system but I still do not have the Task
Manager Function. Clicking Ctrl+Alt+Del gives me the
message Task Manager has been disable/turn-off by
Administrator. I then decide maybe I needed to boot in
Safe Mode get access to the First Administrator Account
to find someway to re-activate Task Manager BUT I forgot
my first Administrator Password.

So how do I:
1. Recover my First Administrator Password?
2. How Do I make the First Administrator Sign-in option
appear ?(right now it only shows up under Safe Mode)
3. How do I re-activate Task Manager Functionality for
all accounts?

Thank You

1 Are you sure you set a password the administrator
account in safe mode is the default administrator it is
good practice to have a password set to prevent hacking
into your system. If you made a clean reinstall there
should not be password from last year try to hit enter
while field is blank to access this account in safe mode
once in settings/control panel/user settings you can
change the account there and is also good to change name
as well as enter password.
2 I leave that account there seems less likely to become
corrupted.
3 Try line 113 at the following site

Hope this helps.

Used TweakUI to make the default Main Administrator
account show up as a log-in option on regular screen
(before it was only visible on Safe Mode). Logged-in as
the Second Administrator and changed the password for the
First Administrator Account. Before this was not possible
when the First Administration was not showing up.

On the second issue:

I saw no options to re-activate Task Manager for the
Second Administrator as casually mentioned in the WinXP
help files which doesn't tell you how or where.

This remains a puzzle to me.

So I switched users to the Second Administrator Account
and dowloaded the 3 registry files mentioned on your link
(item 113) and used that to re-activate Task Manager.
Seems to be working.

Thanks

Major lesson learned: Good idea to have 2 Administrator
accounts just in case one gets corrupted or messed-up.
Luckily my intuition paid off when I installed WindowsXP
a year ago. Thanks for that link !!!!
