Deleted Administrator

After being infected with a virus that blocked the task manager program, i
accidently deleted my administrator account. How do I restore the
administrator function or create a new user with adm. rights? Currently the
only user is a limited account. This is in regard to windows xp professional
version

It's impossible to delete the built-in Administrator account. At the
logon screen hit Ctrl+Alt+Del twice to get the classic logon screen and
try logging on with the Administrator account.

It seems that's the ONLY way you can get access to the Administrator account
in Windows XP Home. I guess MS made it that way for (most user's)
"protection". BTW, until you actually run it once (in Safe Mode for Home
users, since that's the only way you can access to it), it's not really set
up there under "Documents and Settings". And then once you've done it, I
don't think it's possible to remove that account (the explicit Adminstrator
account, I mean; not your other regular one that has adminstrator
privileges).

Logging in or not logging into the built-in Administrator user account
doesn't affect whether it's possible to remove it or not - it's not
possible whether you ever logged into it or not.

OK, I guess it just means it hasn't been "configured", yet (such that its
very own "Documents and Settings" folder would be created)

Hi

I guess I have the solution for it. Give it a try:

1). Go to Stat--> Run--> type in " control userpasswords2 " and click on ok.
2). You will get the windows which will ask you to make changes to
administrator account or you can even delete the administrator account and
make a new one.

Cheers...let me know if it works. It is recomended to do this step in safe
mode but normal mode also works fine.

You *cannot* delete the built-in Administrator account! Go ahead and
try it and find out for yourself.

BZZZZTT!!!! Wrong answer! The built-in Administrator account *cannot*
be deleted. It can, however, be renamed - as is the standard security
practice, or even disabled, should one be stupid enough to do so.

Granted, there's a tiny chance I may be wrong, but I'm quite sure that
OP (and Himanshu, too, for that matter) was *not* talking about THE
built-in Administrator account, but rather his Computer administrator
account (if one is not running as a limited user in XP Home, their type
of account is called "Computer administrator").
